Top Five Unforgettable Olympic Moments Thus Far

Posted by on

Sadly, the 2016 Rio Olympics are halfway over, but what a wild ride it's been! There have been so many emotional moments to choose from that made creating this list very difficult. Here are our top five moments so far:

1. Phelps Makes (Ancient) History

USA swimmer Michael Phelps made ancient history when he surpassed Leonidas of Rhodes who won 12 individual events over a period of four Olympics which last took place 152 B.C. Phelps surpassed Leonidas’ record after winning his 13th individual gold (and 22nd gold overall and 26th).

2. USA v. France

Talk about unexpected! In case you missed it, the USA basketball team beat France 100-97 yesterday in what would have been a shocking defeat. We're still surprised by how close the game ended.

3. Brazil Gymnastics

Last night, history was made when Brazilian gymnast Diego Hypolito won a silver medal for men’s floor exercises. This marks his first Olympic medal after failing to medal at the first two Olympics he competed in.

4. Wedding Bells

One of our favorite moments so far occurred last night when Chinese diver He Zi’s boyfriend and fellow Olympic gymnast Qin Kai proposed to her after she won a silver medal for the women’s three-meter springboard.

5. Simone!

This list would not be complete without mentioning fellow Texan Simone Biles who took home her third gold medal last night in the vault competition. If she wins the gold in the balance beam, she will tie four other gymnasts for most gold medals won by a female gymnast in a single Olympic games.

We hope you enjoyed our mid-way recap of the 2016 Rio Olympics. Stay tuned for more updates and as always, go USA!
